It’s funny. How often do we hear remarks about teens and young adults in our parishes as being “the Church of the future”? Aren’t they already a part of the Church of the present? How do we acknowledge their place in the Church now? Here’s one way to do it…
While several of the courses and presentations throughout the day on Thursday may be of interest to teens, young adults and adults working with them, we will be having a special mini-conference within Spring Enrichment just for them (and any parents/drivers/chaperones with them) running from 4-9pm. “Be the Church Now” will begin with a number of simultaneous activities involving art, music, discovery, service and prayer. After a brief pizza dinner break Chris Padgett will be presenting an opening keynote for the teens and young adults in attendance while Marylin Kratatz-Toolan will be leading a session sponsored by Sadlier Religion for parents who are attending with their teenagers. They will then be able to attend two different breakout sessions before a closing session with Padgett and a blessing by Bishop Edward Scharfenberger. Following the closing blessing participants will be able to remain for a coffee house hour until 9pm.
Teens, young adults and adults attending the Be the Church Now program within Spring Enrichment are also able to register for the other courses being offered as part of the regular Spring Enrichment program. High school teenagers (15-18) and young adults (under 35) are able to attend Be the Church Now for free; adults (over 35) will pay a flat $12 to attend from 4-9pm. Additional information about this conference within a conference is available on the Spring Enrichment website at www.springenrichment.weebly.com/be-the-church-now.
